GMO Food: Be Afraid

Peter Bockenthien » Thursday, January 01 2009

There's fear-mongering and then there are things to be genuinely afraid of. GM foods fit the latter to a 'T' unfortunately.

Isn't the scam clear by now? That in order to enable you to rationalize the latest and greatest in food technology it's always presented as a way to solve world hunger? They say the science backs them up, but really, they've been cooking the data since the beginning while spending millions to ensure that the real science never reaches you.

And if it does, you're still not going to see the whole set of facts. Case in point: regulations often have labeling loopholes to omit facts that the eggs you're buying are from chickens fed GMO food.

Scientists' warnings proven correct

When GM crops and foods were first introduced in the 1990s, scientists raised concerns that genetic modification was imprecise and unpredictable. They warned:

  • GM could create foods that are toxic, allergenic and less nutritious than their non-GM counterparts
  • GM crops could damage vulnerable wild plant and animal populations and harm biodiversity
  • GM plants cannot be recalled, but as living organisms will multiply, passing any damaging traits from generation to generation
  • GM crops could cause irreversible changes to our food supply, with serious effects on the environment and human and animal health.

I hope you read that just the way it was intended: the warnings were proven correct. That means that even while Whole Foods and other places are selling "organic" food, it's not organic at all. It can't be. And no one except the merchants of GMO products have the money or facts to prove it one way or another.

So?

So you're okay with eating foods that are toxic? You're okay with your kids eating foods that are allergenic? Know what that actually means? It means that precious daughter doesn't have allergies, per se, but that they are allergic to the food.

Which means if you have a child that exhibits allergy symptoms and you or your doctor can identify the allergy source that your child is actually able to identify GMO foods. Same goes for you: did you recently become allergic to certain foods? Then it probably is now sourced from a GMO producer.

And if that isn't reason enough, here are some facts that counter Monsanto's claims.
