Composting is the single most important thing to do for your garden year round. It ensures your garden has a future beyond this season.

How? By creating more, perfect soil for your garden. One doesn't fertilize or feed plants. One feeds the soil so it can feed the plant! Composting creates a perfect soil that feeds your plants exactly what they need!

I cannot tell you on this page how amazing this is. And if I told you in person you would think that I'm nuts and have been talking with the plants. Funny, you should learn to listen to plants and what they are trying to tell you. Really. It takes time and you won't be able to lsten to all plants - there are plants I could care less about. I tune out rose bushes all the time!

Compost: don't wait. Get started today with composting your kitchen scraps and papers. You can compost ANYTHING but don't compost these:

  • Feces from you, cats and dogs. You can use horse manure and other manures but you have to know how
  • Meat, grease, butter and oils

That's all I can think of for now. Anything else that can rot is perfect for your compost pile and cans.

Next step: build the soil

Compost

Just as organic matter enables soils to hold more water through the enhanced formation of soil aggregates (structure), it also allows more spaces for air between soil granules.
