Drip Irrigation + Digging
In order to conserve water and keep my garden healthy, I'm installing a drip irrigation system from DripWorks for the garden this year and using mulch where needed. I don't really intend to use that much mulch as I'll be practicing biointensive methods this year.
Digging Update
I'm almost done double digging the garden. Last year I had great success with traditional row crops I didn't have time to double dig. This year I do and the focus is on ridding the garden of 20+ years of Allium flowers. These grow faster and thicker than dandelions. I've had to go very slow to get as many tiny bulbs as possible. I suspect that even the roots start growing apart from a bulb. If so, I'll be digging this out for years.
The wintry weather of late has made my garden too wet to dig. I'm avoiding soil compaction at all costs as roots need to move around. I'm actually not worried at all because as I dig I keep bringing up huge earthworms. These are very, very good for any garden.
Update 2
I moved the sprinkler system pipes about 2 feet in from where they were. As you can see from the photos they are now hugging the stone path. It was a lot of fun.
