Home » Planting

Now you're composting, keeping your soil healthy, and have planned what you're going grow. After you have bought seeds or ordered seedlings, the nest step is to plant.

Timing is everything and that's no different when it comes to planting or transplanting seedlings. Planting is not about the weather, it's about the time of day and phases of the moon.

One can't control the weather but one does have control of when to plant. Planting seeds according to the germination type and phases of the moon is for the purpose of growing strong plants right off the ground. Planting according to the weather means you're leaving most of it to chance and chance is what you will get!

As I've said before, I don't do failure — I do success. I do what works. And I can help you figure out all of the 4 main variables mentioned in Start Yardening so that you can confidently do without my services next year.

When to Plant/Transplant

Hint: plant your hardy cool weather crops in April, and your tender, warm weather crops in May. For example: plant your tomato seeds in April. Keep them warm (I bring mine in at night if my row covers don't keep them warm enough). Then transplant them from seed tray into the ground in late May.
